Ellen Gunning, Founder & CEO

Ellen Gunning is the founder and director of the Global Institute for Public Relations (GIPR) which incorporates the Irish Academy of Public Relations. Ellen has founded a PR consultancy group and one of the largest PR schools in Ireland. With partners across the world, Ellen knows how to succeed. She is a highly regarded, impactful speaker who addresses conferences and seminars worldwide.

Entrepreneur

Ellen has created the Irish Academy of Public Relations which is the biggest online provider of public relations, journalism and event management education in Ireland.

In association with Orient Planet PR (Dubai), Ellen co-founded the Orient Planet Academy, bringing online PR training to the Middle East, and now GIPR is bringing together the best in global education, training and networking for communications industry professionals. She is the past national president of the International PR Association.

Ellen has won a Gold Stevie award in the USA for PR Innovation, Broadcast Journalist of the Year award from the European Parliament and national recognition from the Nigerian Event Management Association. Ellen is a member of the Board of the European Association for Distance Learning (EADL).

Author

Ellen has written three books. Her first book, Public Relations: A Practical Approach, (2018, 3rd edition) is the core text for all PR courses internationally. In 2005, Ellen designed postgraduate Higher Diploma courses in PR and Journalism which were validated by HETAC (the Higher Education and Training Awards Council) at Level 8 on the National Framework. Her second book, Capital Women of Influence, profiles 13 women across a range of disciplines who exercise incredible influence over Dublin. Her third book, Ten Red Hot Tips to Promote Your Business, was published in September 2016.

Journalist

A member of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) since the mid 1980s, Ellen is the former Chairman of the Board of Dublin City FM radio station, which broadcasts to Dublin City and County, Ireland. She presented a weekly program – Mediascope – for 13 years. The program put a spotlight on issues of interest to public relations, journalism and event management practitioners. The show is available as a podcast.
